Friends, we hope you have found this service of End of Day Prayer an encouraging and helpful practice during this past season. At the end of August, we will be concluding the weekly updates. If you'd like to continue this practice, please send Sandy a note at info@14thstreetcrc.org and she'll get back to you with information about how to do so using another online resource. Grace and peace.

Family Prayer

These services of morning, midday, early evening, and close of day prayer are adapted from the services outlined in the Book of Common Prayer (ACNA 2019). They are intentionally designed to facilitate family worship, with young children in mind, and should take roughly 5-10 minutes.

End of Day

Opening Scripture

 I will lay me down in peace, and take my rest;
for you, Lord, only, make me dwell in safety.

—Psalm 4:8

Psalm 134

Behold now, praise the Lord,
all you servants of the Lord,
You that stand by night in the house of the Lord,
even in the courts of the house of our God.

Lift up your hands in the sanctuary
and sing praises unto the Lord.

The Lord who made heaven and earth
give you blessing out of Zion.

Scripture Reading

You keep them in perfect peace whose minds are stayed on you, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.

—Isaiah 26:3-4

Silence and song

Take time to be silent in God’s presence, asking God to quiet your hearts.
Then sing a favorite worship song or hymn together.

The Prayers

The Lord’s Prayer

The Collect

The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Let us pray.

Reflecting back on your day, what do you need to confess and ask forgiveness for?
What blessings did you receive for which you are thankful?
Spend a few moments in prayer, confessing sin and thanking God, closing with the prayers below.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.

Visit this place, O Lord, and drive far from it all snares of the enemy; let your holy angels dwell with us to preserve us in peace; and let your blessing be upon us always; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Nunc Dimittis

Song of Simeon (Luke 2:29-32)

Lord, now let your servant depart in peace,
according to your word.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared before the face of all people;
to be a light to lighten the Gentiles,
and to be the glory of your people Israel.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

Blessing

The almighty and merciful Lord, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless us and keep us,
this night and evermore.  Amen.
